El Gouna: Egypt's top spot on the Red Sea
El Gouna, nestled along Egypt's Red Sea coast, is the country's top kitesurfing destination, known for its sunny days, crystal-clear waters, and steady winds. The expansive shallow lagoons are perfect for beginners, while advanced riders can enjoy the flat water and deeper areas of the lagoon.
Originally a small cluster of hotels, El Gouna has grown into a vibrant town with a warm and welcoming community. For those seeking a more serene escape, consider Ras Sudr or Dahab, both excellent alternatives along Egypt's Red Sea coast. Whether you're looking to perfect your kitesurfing skills or simply enjoy the stunning environment, El Gouna offers an unforgettable experience.
El Gouna's kite season
The best time of the year to kitesurf in El Gouna is from September to late November and March to late June. During these peak times, you can expect consistent winds averaging 14-17 knots, with many days seeing winds over 20 knots. The cross-onshore wind direction ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for kitesurfers of all levels.
In summer, the wind remains good but is less reliable, and temperatures soar, making the water even more inviting. Winter months offer cooler temperatures and less stable wind, but conditions are still favorable if you’re ready for a bit of unpredictability.
